5 ways to feel your best on a business trip

We’ve gathered a few helpful tips to keep your body happy and fit while travelling!

Business trips can be stressful and tiring. From poor sleep to heavy dinners, you might feel that your health is at the bottom of the priority list. We’ve gathered a few helpful tips to keep your body happy and fit while travelling!

Stay hydrated

Dashing from meeting to meeting, chatting with new clients, grabbing lunch on the go… all of these can lead to dehydration! Don’t forget to drink water, it will keep you more alert and productive. Try to remember to carry around a little bottle while you move around. If you're not keen on water, try and opt for drinks that are flavoured but not too sugary such as herbal tea. Beware of too much coffee though, as it can have a dehydrating effect. You should try to drink at least 1.5l of water per day. An added bonus is that drinking enough water will keep your skin in great condition - even despite the drying in-flight cabin air. Which leads us into the next point..

Look after your skin

Men, don't skip this one, this applies to you too! Travelling and adapting to new climates can be stressful for your skin and you want to stay looking fresh for those all-important meetings and networking opportunities. Never forget to bring a good moisturiser to combat cabin air and act as a barrier between your skin and the pollution from the city. A light, non pore-clogging sunscreen is also essential - even if you're in Oslo in the middle of winter, there will still be UV rays. Sunscreen will help prevent any damage or aging caused by the sun. Many pharmacies and drugstores sell minature versions of skincare products. These not only save space in your bag but are also fully compliant with airport security regulations.

Keep active

It's important not to forget about staying active when you're away from home. You might not have time to fit in a workout at the hotel gym, but taking the stairs will only take you an extra five minutes and give your body a great boost! Getting some fresh air can help clear your mind and improve your mood. Why not walk to a nice cafe for your morning coffee or take a stroll around a city park when you have a spare half hour? conichi gives you the time you would have spent queuing for check-in, filling out forms and waiting to pay back, so there's no excuses! You could even do a little sightseeing - research the history and attractions of your destination before travelling so you can make time to explore while you're there.

Opt for lunch meetings rather than dinner

Though enjoyable, business dinners are not always the best for that summer body. If you find yourself with daily big dinners, opt for some as business lunches instead which will allow you to order smaller portions and cut the alcohol! Research restaurants before your arrival so you can plan out where you'll be eating - this will save you valuable time and effort you could be spending on more important things during your trip. This is also useful if you, your colleagues or clients have any dietary requirements. Planning what and where you'll be eating can also help you to make healthier food choices.

If your days are full of meetings, it’s important to give your body and mind a good night’s rest. A good sleep can work wonders so make sure you aim for at least 6 hours per night. There are lots of great apps out there that can help you monitor your sleep quality such as Sleepbot. You might find it difficult to switch off your brain after a busy day, in which case listening to a playlist of classical music can help you relax. If you have time, taking a hot bath will relax your muscles and help you feel sleepy. Check if there's a conichi smarthotel in your city and download the app before your next trip - you will be able to fill out all your room preferences before you arrive, ensuring that your bed is super comfy and perfect for an amazing sleep.A few simple changes to your routine can make all the difference.
